Trade winds are blowing.

Looks like the Kings have made a move, the only question is, what did they get in return? According to Adrian Wojnarowski of Yahoo!, the Kings and their no. 7 pick are part of a blockbuster three way trade including both the Milwaukee Bucks and the Charlotte Bobcats.

Milwaukee has a three-way deal with Charlotte and Sacramento, sources say.

Partial of deal: The Bucks get Stephen Jackson, Shaun Livingston, sources say. Charlotte gets the 7th pick and Corey Maggette.

As the story is unfolding, the early returns are not going to make a lot of Kings fans happy. Here is how the trade looks according to CBS Sports’ Ken Berger:

The Bucks receive: Stephen Jackson, Beno Udrih, and the No.19 pick from Charlotte

The Kings receive: John Salmons and the No.10 from the Bucks

The Bobcats receive: Corey Maggette and the No. 7 pick from Sacramento

If the trade does indeed work out this way, count on the Kings picking a point guard in the draft at #10 or possibly making another move in association with this one. Trading away Beno opens up a gaping hole in the backcourt, one that a rookie would have a tough time filling.

James – color me shocked. If we end up with John Salmons and Jimmer out of this draft it has to go down as the worst ever. I can’t believe the Kings acquired Salmons for another team which must mean they want him. Why?…………….I have no idea.

I would have far preferred the Spurs trade including Richard Hamilton to this one. I hope you hear something that makes some sense out of this. The only thing I can think of that makes some semblance of sense is that Petrie has snapped, he’s lost his mind.

Agreed, at least from the standpoint of taking on Salmons contract. This just didn’t look like the Kings got much for moving down 3 spots.

Am I missing something?
Where’s the value in trading down and swapping one overpaid guard for another?

I can understand the confusion but Salmons is the starting small forward on day one unless the Kings can take some of the $28 million in cap space still remaining and find a better option. Salmons is consistent on both the offensive and defensive end. He can guard 3 positions and he is a pretty good three point shooter. The first two years are a wash but the final season is pretty high. I don’t love it but I don’t hate it either. The Kings got better and remained very much in the running for big things once the lockout ends.

Also, the Kings landed the guy they wanted. Knight is a much bigger risk than Fredette and Knight is undersized. The deal worked out, especially since the Kings dealt with 2 of the 3 teams drafting around them.
