From Sam Amick’s Twitter: Kings Land Dominic McGuire

The Kings were not only kind enough to help facilitate the rebuilding of Clutch City but they also relieved the Washington Wizards of their luxury tax woes.

Here is the tweet information from Sam on the trade.

This now puts the Kings roster at 17 players if I have counted correctly (not a guarantee). They now have to cut at least two players and Joey Dorsey (partially guaranteed next year), Larry Hughes (expiring contract and someone you don’t want infecting Tyreke’s on-court psyche with ideas of what is a good shot) and the newly acquired McGuire are the most likely candidates.

On the Wizards side, they’re now under the luxury tax threshold as they gut out their roster and hope to build for the future around… yep, you guessed it… Frank Stallone Andray Blatche.

UPDATE: I missed Hilton Armstrong on this. He’s no longer with the team. He’s shipped to Houston. That’s what happens on an hour of sleep. Kings are at 16 and can buyout Hughes, which seems like the smartest thing for all sides.

    Didn’t think you could cut guys coming in from trade. Don’t you have to waive people on your roster to make room?

  • CaliforniaJag

    They moved Martin, Armstrong, and Sergio for Hughes, Dorsey, and Landry. That should leave them at 15. Adding McGuire makes 16, but since it’s after the Knicks/Rockets deal they can buy out Hughes.

    I didn’t think so either which is why all of this is so confusing to me. Maybe guys coming can be waived? Trying to find out right now.

    Aykis, I think he counted wrong. We were at 15, then traded three for three, and then traded for one. After the three for three, they’d probably cut Hughes to make room for McGuire. I can’t see them cutting McGuire; otherwise why bother? He’s a solid defender and very athletic. I could see him replacing Udoka.

    @CaliforniaJag
    Correct, I missed Hilton Armstrong.

    So what as all this about exactly? What is the positive result of this trade for the Kings? Honest question.

  • Aykis16

    @CaliforniaJag
    But we can’t cut Hughes. You have to get rid of a guy on the roster. Looks like its going to be K-9 according to Amick’s twitter. Kings might buy him out or release him.

    Thomas makes sense too, but we can buy out Hughes to make room for McGuire.

    Step 1: Roster at 15. Trade 1: Armstrong, Martin, Sergio out; Hughes, Landry, Dorsey in. Roster still at 15.

    Step 2: Roster at 15. Cut Larry Hughes. Roster at 14.

    Step 3: Roster at 14. McGuire deal. Roster at 15 again.

    I wouldn’t be surprised if K9 was just released anyway. I think Thomas and Hughes both go.

  • Aykis16

    Told y’all I was right. K-9 waived per Woj and Amick.
